<p>Based in the magical city of Vicenza, it has been on the map of the most famous insider tips for jewellery makers since 1996. We are talking about Roberto Coin. L'Officiel Austria spoke to the founder about creativity and sustainable jewellery.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Roberto Coin likes to oscillate between worlds, loves to make opulent jewellery - some would also call it "being unapologetic". This is the spirit of the times and probably one reason why details of his collections also find their way into the jewellery departments of high-street chains, because what Roberto Coin makes sells and is the design process of a journey between different cultures and multi-ethnic influences.</p>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Please tell us how you started your brand!</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Roberto Coin: "In a very unusual way indeed: I felt in love with jewellery at a latest age of my life as I was a successful hotelier who liked fashion. I am a typical Italian in this way. At the age of 33 I wanted to face a new challenge and see if my ability as business man and my creativity could work together. For 7 years I studied a lot and focused in developing my personal style. But it was also essential to me to be able not only to design but also to manufacture."</p>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">And how about the beginnings?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Roberto Coin: "The beginning was surprising as in 1984 we were already supplying our jewels to the best retailers all over the world without using our name. Then in 1996 a new challenge arrived: launching our own brand worldwide. Thanks to all my clients, family and my team we succeeded."</p>

<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Your jewellery is very bold and colourful. What kind of woman do you have in mind when designing?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Roberto Coin: "In my mind every woman deserves to wear her uniqueness. That is why I create jewels that are suitable for different styles, ages and budgets."</p>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Who is your absolute fashion icon of all time?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Roberto Coin: "I have two, for different reasons: <a href="https://lofficiel.at/tags/valentino" title="valentino">Valentino</a> and <a href="https://lofficiel.at/tags/armani">Armani</a>."</p>

<h4 style="text-align: justify;">The discussion around sustainability has reached the jewellery industry as there are more and more brands using recycled gold or fair-trade diamonds. Please tell us about your thoughts on this new trend!</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Roberto Coin: "I am very proud that at <em>Roberto Coin</em> this is not a new trend at all. It has always been our way to do business with an ethic commitment since day one! Indeed I am one of the founder of WDC, the World Diamond Council, and Kimberley Process that have always been representing the traceability of diamonds worldwide. Regarding gold, I can say that I am not a true fan of recycled gold because we are not aware of its real origin. We always purchase gold bullions from prime international banks with London Good Delivery certification.&nbsp;</p>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">What's the inspiration you are always aiming for?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Roberto Coin: "In my mind inspiration is surprising and can arrive from everywhere. Curiosity is my evergreen. Visiting different countries, experiencing art, fashion, stories, nature and the animal world. Creativity is in our genes."</p>

<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Do you have a very special place where you like working or do you sketch designs on the go?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Roberto Coin: "I take the opportunity to sketch when I feel relaxed. Usually I do it when I fly, instead of reading a book or watching a film. But the best of me comes when I am in my birthplace Venice. In Venice I relax better and sleep well, thanks to the water and the legendary lagoon effect."</p>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Please tell us about the jewellery trends we are going to see in 2023 and 2024?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Roberto Coin: "Every international brand makes its own trends to satisfy their clientel. At Roberto Coin we work continuously to create new lifestyle jewellery that very often become a trend and we also concentrate on the new generation who loves to buy from ethical jewellers."</p>
