On the occasion of the festive awarding of the Bucherer BLUE Young Designer Scholarship to the graduate of the Hetzendorf Fashion School, Marc Dudek, the young designer talks about the collection that won him the award and his next career step.

Nobel jeweller BUCHERER shared its enthusiasm for craftsmanship and innovation and invited Marc Dudek, a graduate of the local <a href="https://www.lofficiel.at/en/fashion/modeschule-hetzendorf-first-fashion-film-of-the-graduating-class">fashion school Hetzendorf</a>, to an exclusive cocktail party dedicated to fashion on the occasion of the awarding of a sponsorship scholarship.

&quot;Promoting young talent in fashion and art is one of our heartfelt projects and it gives us particular pleasure to support young talent,&quot; said Julien Rossier, Managing Director of Bucherer Austria, opening the evening. Inspired by the innovative models of the Bucherer BLUE line, the timeless minimalist designs of Marc Dudek&#39;s &quot;Space Race&quot; collection convinced the expert jury this year. The graduate of the Hetzendorf fashion school reinterprets the space-age look of the <a href="https://www.lofficiel.at/en/tags/1960s" target="_blank">1960s</a> and also incorporates the reduced lines of the architecture prevalent at the time into his designs. Among others, the Panton Chair, as well as the aesthetically related Pedestral Group by Eero Saarinen, was the decisive inspiration behind the fashion designer&#39;s minimalist creations, whose reduced look is deliberately contrasted by ruffled outer fabrics.

&quot;The collection is unobtrusive, yet catches the eye and remains in the memory due to the organically thought-out lines,&quot; says Dudek, who is delighted to receive the prize money of 6,000 euros. In addition, he will have the honour of designing the shop windows of the prestigious shop in the best city centre location entirely according to his own style.

Your wonderful collection deals with the Space Exploration era from the 60s and its futurism. What emotions do you have towards this era and how was it &quot;packaged&quot; in the collection?

Marc Dudek: &quot;For me, the enthusiastic spirit of a new age and the technical progress in development, which was expressed, among other things, through space technology, heralded the most important epoch of modernity and laid the foundations of today&#39;s designs. As a result, I have always felt a deep connection to this indispensable era, which represents timeless design.

The fashion of the 60s revolutionised and democratised the clothing industry. Designers like Paco Rabanne and Pierre Cardin shaped and developed the new futuristic look and established more contemporary, comfortable and wearable fashion for the new more youthful target group. The prudish ideas of the 50s gave way to the trendsetting designs of the 60s. They opened a new chapter in fashion development and still seem modern and timeless today - which is exactly the effect I want to achieve with my collection.&quot;

What materials were used in the process?

Marc Dudek: &quot;The collection was made exclusively from high-quality materials. Original hand-printed silk fabrics from the 1960s were combined with a modern boucl&eacute; fabric made of virgin wool. The silk in particular was elaborately folded by hand using a special technique in the pattern of the parachute cap of the PD-47.&quot;

From Jane Fonda to James Bond, the positive spirit of optimism towards the technology of yesteryear has given way to skepticism in many places today. What is your attitude towards technology and how can it be implemented to make a green impact possible for the fashion industry?

Marc Dudek: &quot;We should continue to promote the symbiosis between technology and tradition, as well as push for the return and further development of already eco-friendly fibres and manufacturing techniques to create durable and high-quality designs.&quot;

You are a graduate of the Hetzendorf Fashion School. What does your next career step look like?

Marc Dudek: &quot;Based on my creatively and commercially diversified education and experience at the Hetzendorf Fashion School, I have already been able to participate in several projects for international companies, convince them of my ideas and visions and successfully realize my concepts. In the future, I would like to continue following my intuitive vision and constantly develop myself further to live up to my standards. In doing so, I would like to realize my works and visions without limiting myself to a certain genre.&quot;

Which designer comes closest to your design philosophy?

Marc Dudek: &quot;Above all, <a href="https://www.lofficiel.at/en/fashion/h-m-studio-aw2-futuristic-glamour-meets-bold-minimalism">Pierre Cardin</a> impressed me with his design-philosophical demands and views. He not only limited these to fashion, but also implemented them in his everyday life: he was considered a pioneer in his industry and shaped fashion, accessories and furniture into three-dimensional objects with forward-looking aspirations. Of course, I also permanently observe current fashion developments and their reflections on current social events - fashion continues to be an irrevocable mirror of our society.&quot;
