<p>If there's one company that has made a splash in skincare, it's Paula's Choice. The brand has just exploded in the last few years. We spoke to Valerie Bleeker. As Paula's Choice's Skincare Education Manager, she's an absolute pro when it comes to skincare routines.</p>

<h4 style="text-align: justify;">There are so many ingredients on the market ... which ones should you know about?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Valerie Bleeker: "There is BHA, which is acetylsalicylic acid. Then there's AHA, which is also known as fruit acid. There are a lot of them and everyone can find the right one for them. Retinol is a great active ingredient that has proven itself for years. An all-rounder for everyone is niacinamind, which has a pore-refining effect and combats hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid should also be in your repertoire."</p>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">The ideal skincare routine! What can you recommend?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Valerie Bleeker: "You should always cleanse gently in the morning and evening, that's the most important thing. Secondly, do a chemical peel every week. Paula's Choice is the right place to go. They help to stimulate the skin renewal process. Always use sunscreen during the day and a moisturiser at night is important. At Paula's Choice, we always combine day cream with sunscreen.</p>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Shouldn't you take the cream or sunscreen with you when you're out and about?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Valerie Bleeker: "If you do sports or are outside for a long time, then definitely. But if you work in the office like I do, then it's enough to take it in the morning".</p>

<h4 style="text-align: justify;">You have already conducted thousands of counselling sessions. What do customers want from their skin care?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Valerie Bleeker: "That it 'works'. Sometimes you have to lower expectations, because I find it critical when a company says 'This is Botox in a bottle'. You can't meet those expectations with Skincare. But skincare is something supportive to make you feel good."</p>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Which cleanser in particular?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Valerie Bleeker: "Omega+ Complex Cleansing Balm, which also removes waterproof make-up. Start with an oil cleanser, then go over it again with a water-based cleanser."</p>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Is there a product in the Paula's Choice "arsenal" that supports a glowy look?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Valerie Bleeker: "25% AHA plus 2% exfoliant scrub. It's not for starters, but you can have a glow in 10 minutes with this product. It's like a facial at home. The product has butterfly flower extract and is purple so you can see where you've applied. The butterfly flower extract with it is antioxidant and soothing."</p>

<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Do you have to differentiate between sun care and winter care?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Valerie Bleeker: "You can use anything as long as sunscreen is included. You also shouldn't let an influencer tell you what works well, because everyone's skin is different. If you notice in summer that your skin is getting greasier, for example, then add a toner with niacinamide. You can also switch to a fluid instead of a cream in the summer. Paula's Choice also has active ingredient boosters for this."</p>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Pigmentation spots: What helps here in terms of skincare?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Valerie Bleeker: "A high SPF. Always use sunscreen 2 fingers full. Niacinamide and vitamin C and retinol is very good. You can also do an AHA peel at home."</p>

<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Do you feel that consumers are educating themselves more and more?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Valerie Bleeker: "Yes, but there is so much misinformation. Using dermarollers on TikTok itself and then seeing red faces - that's horror. That's also due to the pandemic. And on top of that, there are skin problems due to stress."</p>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Is there a thumbrule to remember?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Valerie Bleeker: "Irritated skin ages faster. So if you're constantly using treatments or products that tingle or redden the skin, they're definitely not right."</p>
