When it comes to face lifts, the conundrum of being 38, lies in having to bridge the gap in years, of being too young for both a mini-face lift and a deep-plane face lift. The latter is recommended in your mid-40&rsquo;s, while the former, in your early 50&rsquo;s. Having any type of face lift procedure is not recommended in your 30&rsquo;s, nevertheless, skin elasticity does tend to take a turn for the worse during this period. While most aestheticians recommend fixing any issues that occur during this period with filler (sagging in the corners of the mouth, drooping jowls and jaw lines and general loss of firmness in the face), if, like me, you are versed in all things filler (a euphemism for &ldquo;your face is full of it&rdquo;) &ndash; you tend to worry about starting to look &ldquo;overfilled&rdquo;, aka Madonna. At this point, one needs to begin looking for non-filler related alternatives to keep ones face looking youthful.

I started &ldquo;shopping&rdquo; around for a solution to my problem by visiting a number of practices. At all of them, I was told that any kind of invasive procedure wouldn&rsquo;t possible as there wasn&rsquo;t enough sagging skin to cut, and pull upwards ie. that it was too early for the mini-face lift and definitely too early for the deep-plane. Being the kind of gal, that doesn&rsquo;t take &ldquo;no&rdquo; for an answer, I then stumbled across the &ldquo;one stitch face lift&rdquo; procedure, offered by Dr. Kager at Rieder Kager &Auml;sthetische Medizin (both resident doctors are women).

The &ldquo;one stitch&rdquo; uses permanent threads, as an alternative to non-permanent PDO ones (I&rsquo;ve had all of this done before, in different areas of my face, with little to no result) and does involve surgery, ie. cutting of the skin. Nevertheless, it does not require full anesthetic (only local), takes an hour to complete and requires very little down-time AND is safe to use on relatively young patients. I went for two consults, before Dr. Kager agreed to the procedure. The first time she told me, that there was really no need. By the second one, it must have dawned on her that I was one of the types that wouldn&rsquo;t go away (and she was very much correct with her assumption), and agreed to it. Generally, and this is a very personal preference of mine when it comes to plastic surgery, my motto is &ldquo;if it can&rsquo;t make things worse, it can only make things better&rdquo; &ndash; during consults, it is a question I pose to the doctors. If the answer is affirmative, I always go ahead, as planned.&nbsp;

Let me quickly outline the nitty-gritty of what the procedure actually entails. Only one incision is made on each side of the upper cheek-bone area, through which the permanent thread is inserted and pulled back, in order to lift and firm the upper cheek area of the face. The thread remains in your face, indefinitely. Excess skin that remains as a result, is then cut away, but this is done inside the hair line by the ears &ndash; the scarring is therefore completely invisible. The results encompass lifting of sagging cheeks and of the temples and improvement in the contours of the face.

I will assume that most of you have seen &ldquo;before&rdquo; and &ldquo;after&rdquo; pictures of Bella Hadid (pre- and post-fame) &ndash; notice how she went from having a rounded face with droopy cheeks to that sleek, pulled-up, chiseled, high cheek-bones, oval face shape? My suspicion: a one-stitch face lift, in combination with minimal filler, for a more &ldquo;natural&rdquo; result.

You will need to take into account the following, according to my experience, when considering the procedure: the results last between one to three years, depending on your particular skin type. Pain and discomfort are minimal, post procedure. If you put on a beanie, no one can tell anything has been done. Yes, you feel the tightness, yes, you have to sleep on your back for a couple of weeks, and, interesting fact: your jaw doesn&rsquo;t open for 5 working days &ndash; but hey, that&rsquo;s a free diet included in the price, so don&rsquo;t fret.

Am I happy with the result? Yes. Why? I feel tighter and I see an improvement, but it&rsquo;s not obvious that something has been done (this is the beauty of plastic surgery done well).&nbsp;
